02 Aug 2021 - New Straits Times
KUALA LUMPUR: Serba Dinamik Group Bhd has launched MySurFi satellite internet service in Larut, Perak following the successful implementation in Melaka and Kelantan.
The high speed broadband internet community social service programme will provide free Internet access for six months amid the Covid-19 pandemic.
It will be operated by Serba Dinamik and Mosyawa Sdn Bhd in collaboration with Larut member of parliament Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin.
Serba Dinamik group managing director Datuk Dr Ir Ts Mohd Abdul Karim Abdullah said the corporate social responsibility initiative was unique to the company.
In addition to free Internet service, Serba Dinamik would contribute to the current needs and assistance to families affected by the Covid-19 pandemic.
The initiative was spearheaded by Serba Dinamik's technology division and the CARE team.
Serba Dinamik said the joint initiative would assist the government in realising the desire to provide broadband service comprehensively in areas without internet access.
Mosyawa chief executive officer Mohd Syakirin Che Aziz said the implementation of MySurFi was in line with the current technological advances where the use of this satellite was no stranger.
"MySurFi has moved towards that in providing affordable and high speed broadband services," he added.
In a live virtual video chat using the MySurFi service, Hamzah was thankful and happy with the latest developments in Kampung Kelian Gunung with its geographical location far inland, making it difficult to access the internet.
"God willing, we can work with this company, so that we can help the villagers enjoy the internet just like the people who live in the cities.
"We don't want a digital divide. If possible, all villagers and people in the city should have the same opportunity, moreover in the problem we face the issue of the Covid-19 epidemic, children study at home privately. So if we can provide all the communication, then the teachers in the school can also teach those who live far inland," Hamzah added..
Karim said the installation of MySurFi only took less than two weeks from the date the survey started at the selected site.
The specifications of the equipment installed were in accordance with the standards set by the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC).
Last June, Serba Dinamik entered into a strategic partnership with Network Innovation Inc of Canada, a service operator experienced in installing hubs and Network Operations Centre as well as Serba Dinamik's first Teleport in Cyberjaya.
Serba Dinamik will begin investing in assets and infrastructure related to connectivity through satellite technology.
As one of its long-term plans, the company is currently in the research and design phase for its own telecommunications satellites with strategic partners from around the world.
This design phase also directly involves researchers from local universities through the New Space Economy Nexus collaboration launched on March 17 this year.
